Beautiful Day!

I woke this morning with a song and a promise in my head. Did you?

This is one of my very favorite verses:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

–Jeremiah 29:11

Aren’t you glad that He already has a plan?  All we have to do is listen for His still small voice as He guides us along the path we are meant to follow!  If you sit back and take the time to really mull that over it takes the everyday stress and guesswork about what comes next and it tucks it away in a back corner box, unneeded.

My front yard!

My front yard!

This is my view.  The leaves are starting the change.  Sun is shining.  It’s a beautiful day!  Even though I tried to start my coffee pot with no water in it just before I sat down to write this post, it is a beautiful day!  Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and say you’re going to get some more sleep tonight.  😉

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalms 118:24

Here is the song that got me started this morning!  I hope you enjoy it!  I am off to wake up a little bit with that pot of coffee and join my church family to get my worship on.  What do your Sunday mornings look like?  Sunday paper?  Church?  Sleeping in?  Whatever it is you do this morning, rejoice in it!  Many blessings.

Five Minute Friday — Because

This post is a part of Five minute Friday, a writing flash mob that happens every week when writers are prompted by a single word to write for 5 minutes without any major editing. Just raw thoughts and emotions. You can find out more and/or join the party here.

Because today I need a reminder, and maybe you were wondering.

Why do I write?

When I started this blog it was simply because God said to write.  So, I stood on the promise that He doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called, and I wrote.  I closed my eyes and I pushed publish!

I write because I am called to write.  Of this I am certain.

I write because when I don’t everything gets all discombobulated.  I feel unsettled, unfocused, and useless.

I write because when I sit down and pour the words that have been rolling around in my head out onto paper, things in my world seem to fall into place.  I feel centered, focused and tapped into God’s vision for my life.

As I look back at my life I can see that I have always written.  As a child I would make up plays and act them out on the banks of a stream that ran through the neighbor’s yard, or in the bathtub.  🙂  I have a folder of stories I wrote in elementary school.  I wrote articles for my high school yearbooks, and somewhere around here I have a collection of other things I have written.  I never thought much of it back then, but I have always written.

I write because I have a story to tell.

I write because somewhere there is someone who needs to hear my story.

I write because I am a writer.  Of this one thing I am certain.  This one path I can see laid out in front of me.

I write because it is my right now calling.

What are you called to do right now?

Godspeed,

Mollie  ❤

13 years..A Tribute

Today marks ten years since that horrifying day when the landscape of our little part of the world was forever changed, and so were we.  That day was many things to many people.  It was first and foremost a terrible day of great loss.  Many many lives were lost that day, and if I could list every name here for you to see I would because with every name there is a story.  Our sense of security as a nation was shattered that day as well, but even in the midst of all this we gained, because out of the ashes rose a sense of patriotism, a feeling of oneness.  In the days following the attacks strangers stood in line for hours waiting to give blood .  Provisions were collected and sent with volunteers who flocked to the World Trade Center to lend a hand.  In that moment in time we truly stood as One Nation under God.

I bought this from a street artist in New York City.

I won’t post a bunch of pictures of that day.  Truth be told I could probably close my eyes and remember fairly accurately the images that graced my television screen and newspapers in the weeks and months that followed.  Instead my simple tribute is simply remembering.  I was 21 and attending a local community college.  That morning I drove the 30 minutes to school to be met with a note on the door that my instructor’s son was sick and classes were canceled for the day.  Since I only had classes with that instructor I signed the list saying I had showed up and started the trip back home.  I called a classmate to tell her classes had been canceled and it was then that I found out.  She told me that a plain had hit the first tower and she was frantically trying to get a hold of her sister who worked about a block from the World Trade Center.  I was asked to call another professor to tell him that Jamie wouldn’t be coming to class that day and I did.  I drove to my then boyfriend’s house, arriving just in time to witness the second plain crash into the second tower.  the rest of the day was kind of numb as we watched the coverage from North Carolina.  Thirteen years and it still seems just as senseless and crippling as it did then.  Tears still fall whenever I think on that day for more than a few fleeting seconds.

I came across a commercial a Facebook friend shared today and I would like to share it with you.  The caption under the video says that Budweiser only aired it once so as not to benefit financially from it – they just wanted to acknowledge the tragic event ……

Where were you that day?  Will you share your story of that day with us?

Godspeed,

Mollie

Just Say Jesus

Tonight has been a rough night in my house.  I discovered that the freezer door had been blocked from closing all the way, but not enough to be noticed. It had been cracked open for just long enough to thaw everything on the door. Everything on the outside of most of the shelves and for some reason the entire middle shelf, which held my ice cream reserve….. I mean really? I don’t even have ice cream to absorb my feelings about this. I can’t help but laugh as I am in the middle of typing that last sentence.  Bet you can guess what I’ve been doing the last couple hours.  Yep, that’s right.  Cooking the salvageable freezer items.  I have cooked sausage patties, bourbon street chicken, hash brown patties, and tuscan beans so far.  I still have whole new potatoes, and two pizza dough balls to cook.  I threw out an entire kitchen trash can full of stuff that was just mush.  It could have been worse.  The shelf with all the meat on it could have thawed out and I could be up cooking all night.  Of course during all this my kids were bugging me every 10 seconds or so to the point where I feel like my head is really going to explode at any second.  If you walk into my house tonight I will most likely paint you a picture of a stark raving lunatic.  Good thing no one stopped by!

Now, on the bright side, I won a signed copy of a book at a twitter party earlier tonight.  FYI:  You cannot send a message to someone who does not follow you on twitter, even though anyone you follow can send you a message.  I may never get the book, because I’m supposed to message the author, who does not follow me, with my info, but I won.  LOL.  Ooo, just got the whole book deal figured out!

In the midst of the chaos, God planted a song in my head, as He often does.  I thought I would share it with you tonight!

Just Say Jesus

By: 7eventh Time Down

Life gets tough and times get hard
And it’s hard to find the truth in all the lies
If you’re tired of wondering why you’re heart isn’t healing
And nothing feels like home cause you’re lost and alone
Just screaming at the sky

When you don’t know what to say
Just say Jesus
There is power in the name
The name of Jesus
If the words won’t come cause you’re too afraid to pray
Just say Jesus

Whisper it now, or shout it out
However it comes out, He hears your cry
Out of nowhere He will come
You gotta believe it
He will rescue you
Just call out to the way, the truth, the life

When you don’t know what to say
Just say Jesus
There is power in the name
The name of Jesus
If the words won’t come cause you’re too afraid to pray
There is just one name, strong enough to save
There is just one name
There is just one name
Jesus

When you don’t know what to say
Just say Jesus
There’s still power in the name
The name of Jesus
If the words won’t come cause you’re too afraid to pray
If the words won’t come and you don’t know what to say
Just say Jesus

Tomorrow is a new day and I’ll probably have to take the kids for ice cream to make up for the “moment” I had tonight.  (Moms’ Night Out reference in case you didn’t catch it!  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend finding your closest Redbox and renting it now!!!)  Hey, at least I won’t have to cook dinner tomorrow and now the freezer is cleaned out too!  🙂

Godspeed,

Mollie  ❤

The Day Before…

It’s a day like any other. You wake up. Get dressed. And your day goes on.  It’s a normal day.  But, what if today you woke up knowing that this was it? This was the last day that life as you know it now would pass for a normal day in your world. Tomorrow everything is going to change in big big ways.  Would you spend more time with this friend or that? Keep your kids home for the day and go on an adventure with them? Spend the day immersed in God’s Word, His presence? Or would you simply go about the day with business as usual?
What are those change your whole life in one day moments?

Salvation.

Meeting your future spouse.

Death.

Natural disaster.

Loss of all income.

Divorce.

Being diagnosed with an illness.

Winning the lottery.

Parenthood.

We never know when these things will happen.  Some are happy and some are sad.  But they all change your life suddenly and forever.  A single moment can change your life forever.  A single moment.  Have you ever thought about that?  The power a moment has?  It’s incredible isn’t it?  How do you deal with change?  Are you a roll with the punches kind of person, or a fall apart at the person?  Do you lean heavily on the Father in these times of uncertainty, or do you lean on your own power and understanding?  I fall somewhere in the middle of all that.  Proverbs 3:5 tells us we should trust in God with everything we have and not on our own understanding.

That makes sense right?  He already knows what the end game is for us.  He has seen it all play out and He has us firmly in hand.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

— Jeremiah 29: 11

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses.  It tells me that He has it all planned out.  He sees that big life changing event coming and He’s not worried about it.  So why should I be?

So, on the day before, go about your day.  Tell people you love them and spend some time in relationship with God.  Make plans, dream big, and just live free of the worries of tomorrow.  Tomorrow will worry about itself and God has it all under control.  If you are a worrier, this quote is for you.  I came across it and I love the wording of it.

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow.  It empties today of its strength.
