Some days the sun shines just for me!

Did you know that some days the sun shines just for me? That’s right. I have an in with the Creator of the universe. He calls me daughter. Do you know what else? Some days the sun shines just for you too!

My world is blissful right now.  My kids, even though they drive me half insane fighting and they both threw fits tonight because I wouldn’t let them have a snack 5 minutes before dinner was ready, my kids are happy and healthy.  Today mommy got a break for a couple hours, which unheard of in the summertime.  I have beautiful wonderful friends who push me to be better tomorrow than I am today.  And new on the scene I have a blossoming relationship with a man who makes my heart beat a little bit faster every time I talk to him, or think of him, or see him, ok maybe a lot faster, and who keeps me laughing!  So, today the sun shone just for me!  What a beautiful day it was.

If you find yourself in the middle of a storm today, and trust me I know all about those storms, I encourage you to be steadfast to God during this time.  Soon enough the storm clouds will roll back and blue skies will shine through.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  –Romans 8:28

God can redeem whatever it is that you’re going through.  He can and will work everything for your good.  I think the key to realizing this is to not look for things to come in our own time, but be patient and wait on His timing.  Expecting God to move on our timeline only creates frustration.  Your story comes out so much better when you let Him move in His own time!

Sit back and enjoy one of my very favorite Natalie Grant songs, then tell me about the days when the sun shines just for you!  If you’re going through a storm, tell me about that too.  I would love to join in praying for you, and when the sun starts shining I would love to celebrate with you!

Days Like These –Natalie Grant

Celebrating 1 year!!!

Yesterday was my blogoversary!  One year ago yesterday, I took a step of faith and published my very 1st blog post!  I am endlessly grateful for the 20 seconds of insane courage it took to push publish that day, and for everything that has come after.  I could never have imagined all the blessings that would stem from that one simple act of courage.

I would like to thank each of you who has stood with me over this past year as I have found my footing in the writing world.  Blogging pointers, teaching me how to make a blog button, pointing me towards all the resources I would need to make my first days as a blogger a success, telling me what not to do, reading the words I poured out on these pages, commenting on my posts, sharing my words with others, and/or standing in my corner cheering me on.  No matter how you have stood with me over this past year, I am forever grateful for each one of you!

Fun Stuff:

I find it endlessly exciting that people in 25 different countries have read my words over the past year!  I do mean endlessly exciting!  I could go on and on about my fascination over this!  I mean really, how cool is that!  25 countries!  I even learned about a country I had never heard of before: Isle of Man, it lays in between Great Britain and Ireland in the Irish Sea.  Who knew having a blog could teach you some geography.  I also learned that there are 196 countries in this beautiful world of ours!  I got curious about the number of countries after I saw how many had read my blog.

In three short weeks I am going to my very first blogger retreat!  I am so super excited to be able to meet some of the ladies I have met in the blogosphere next month in Nashville, TN.  I was blessed that a friend introduced me to the Five Minute Friday community before I started my blogging journey.  I think finding your “place” or your “people” in anything you do, makes it so much better, and I have found my place with them.  From day one, they opened their arms wide and welcomed me into the blogging world.  I was both blessed and surprised by the strong community that was offered online, always there to support and pray for one another and cheer each other on as we tackle different, and sometimes the same, things.

The number one thing that this last year has highlighted for me is that every story matters.  Even when you feel like you have nothing to say that will help anyone, there is always someone who has been waiting to hear exactly what you have to say.

Thank you so much for taking this journey with me!  Now, here’s a recipe for the yummy Neapolitan cupcakes I made to celebrate my blogoversary!  Hope you enjoy them!

Free {Five Minute Friday}

This post is a part of Five Minute Friday, a writing flash mob that happens every week when writers are prompted by a single word to write for 5 minutes without any major editing. Just raw thoughts and emotions. You can find out more and/or join the party here.

What does it mean to be free?

To me it speaks of cost.  You can find it in the polished buttons and starched collar of a military dress uniform.  In an American flag draped casket of a fallen hero as he journeys home. In 12 gun salutes and fallen tears.  In the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  In the Vietnam War Memorial and the 9/11 Memorial.

It also speaks of untold beauty.  You can find it in We the people, and One Nation Under God.  In sparklers and watermelon.  It’s in the right to choose what you want to be; a doctor, a lawyer, a rodeo clown, and yes, even a writer.  It’s in the freedom to follow you heart wherever it may lead, change your mind and follow it again.   It’s in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Don’t forget the cost when you are enjoying the beauty.

I have found that it is easy to let hope be your guide when skies are blue, the sun is shining and all is well in your world, but when the worst happens, when the storm clouds start rolling in, what is your first reaction?  Is it one of hope and of you standing on God’s promises, or does your mind go off into all the bad things that “could” happen?  I have two answers to this.  When it is a personal experience I tend to way in on the side of entertaining those dark thoughts of terrible outcomes and the things that go bump in the night, but when I have a little distance, as in it’s not happening directly to me, I find it is much easier to let hope win out and guide me through the situation.  I think that is a  testament to God.  He places extra people around you during those hard times, people who have some distance from the given situation, in order to help guide you back towards hope.  Your turn?  What is your gut reaction to the unthinkable?

Sunflowers and tiger lilies, whole fields of them.  Diner tables filled with friends.  Books, lots and lots of books.  Getting swept up in the rhythm of a song, or lost in a fantasy world found between the pages of a much loved book.  Nights spent under the stars, watching the lightning bugs light up the grass.  The sound of leaves crunching underfoot and a child’s laughter.  Getting lost in laughter.  I love you momma and sweet baby kisses.  Sun kissed cheeks and grass in between my toes.  Hot tub dips in the snow and horseback rides.  Feeling the wind in my hair and my fingers as my hand hangs out an open window.  Words written in the pages of a journal and the dream of tomorrow and all the possibilities it holds.

Does anyone else have the Sound of Music song running through their head right now?

What are a few of your favorites?

Godspeed,

Dream {Five Minute Friday}

For the longest time, when anyone asked me what my dream was I would just blankly stare at them and shrug my shoulders.  It was a frustrating feeling; not knowing what my dream was.  I of course had the typical dreams, marriage, kids, something to do with horses, and the perfect little small town where everyone knew me.  But, I didn’t have a dream, a passion, that drove me towards a high and lofty goal.  I felt like there was something wrong with me because I was lacking in this, this having a dream.  It was at around 23 that God planted a small seed that would grow into the dream I have today.  In a prophecy I received, I was told that I had a book in me.  I laughed it off then, but some ten years later He reminded me of that Sunday so long ago when my friend had spoken into my life.  It was time to give wings to the dream God had planned for me.  That’s how this blog was born as a way to find my writing voice before jumping into writing a book.

If you are like I was and are wondering through life wondering what’s wrong with you.  Wondering why you don’t have a dream.  If you’re frustrated because you don’t yet know what your dream is, just wait, God has a plan for you.  He has the perfect dream for you that He will plant in your heart at just the right time so that it can grow into exactly what He wants for you.  I encourage you to open up your Bible and read Jeremiah 29:11.  It is my life verse and I go back to it often when things are unclear to me.

Godspeed,

Mollie  ❤
